Roadway Lighting/Traffic SignalsRoadway Lighting and Traffic Signals play an integral role in pedestrian and driver safety. Effective roadway lighting is one of the most effective ways to fight crime, enhance safety and increase civic beauty. The work of Divane Bros. Electric Co. has a significant impact on the safety and appeal of Chicagoland by installing and maintaining many roadway lights and traffic signals. |
Wacker Drive ReconstructionWacker Drive, originally constructed in 1926, is Chicago’s famed two-level thoroughfare, serving more than 60,000 cars daily. Between February 2001 and November 2002, Divane Bros. Electric Co. provided the electrical construction on the southwest portion of this historic downtown rehabilitation. Thousands of feet of conduit and cable were installed to provide power to the hundreds of underpass lighting fixtures on the lower level and decorative light poles replicating Daniel Burnham’s original design along the upper level; truly a signature piece of Chicago’s Riverfront landscape. |

Orleans Street BridgeChicago is owner to 52 Bascule style bridges throughout the city, the highest concentration of movable bridges in the world. The bascule bridge connecting Franklin and Orleans Street, at 360 feet, is one of Chicago’s longest. After 80 years of service, the bridge was completely rehabilitated in 2001. Divane Bros. Electric Co. provided the various, demanding electrical tasks from the DC power rectifiers required to lift the two section bridge to the numerous control cables and terminations necessary to provide safe operation from either of the two historic bridge houses located on the north and south side of the Chicago River. The intricate control system ensures in sync closure of the two halves of the bridge within a quarter of an inch making it safe for vehicles and pedestrians to cross the river in busy downtown Chicago. |
Museum CampusOver the past decades, Divane Bros. Electric Co. has played an instrumental role in the development of downtown Chicago. An excellent project to illustrate this is the pedestrian lighting installation at Chicago's Museum Campus. Illuminated walkways provide park visitors with safe and scenic passage through Chicago's most beautiful lakefront park connecting the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, the John G. Shedd Aquarium, and the newly renovated Soldier Field. Divane Bros. Electric Co.'s further contribution to park patrons can be found beneath Grant Park, in the multi-level underground garage. Divane Bros. Electric Co. provided the required power, lighting, and systems to provide a safe and functional parking garage in the heart of Chicago's lakefront. |

LaSalle StreetDecorative lighting has complemented Chicago’s historic architecture since the advent of electric lights. Divane Bros. Electric Co. furnished and installed the street and pedestrian lighting on LaSalle St, in downtown Chicago. This project, in the heart of Chicago, required extensive coordination between contractors and the City of Chicago in order to keep this vital area functional. Conduits for lighting structures were installed in “vaulted” sidewalks, making this project far more difficult and demanding than most standard underground electrical installations. |
Roosevelt Road BridgeThe Roosevelt Road Bridge over the Chicago River located just south of Chicago’s Loop, is a vital crossing for industry and commerce on Chicago’s near south side. This historic bridge is one of many moveable bridges in Chicago, and Divane Bros. Electric Co. was instrumental in the rehabilitation of this structure. The entire electrical system was replaced, including all controls and power to operate the massive steel bridge, and decorative lighting was installed to bring contemporary style to this historic structure. |

State StreetState Street is a landmark in downtown Chicago, known for such landmark shopping destinations as Marshall Field’s and some of the most historically important architecture in America. As part of the recent revitalization of the Chicago’s Central Business District, the City of Chicago contracted with Divane Bros. to install new, historically accurate lighting poles on State Street. These poles replicated the original design by Daniel Burnham, complete with simulated blue "pilot lights" representing the original gas flamed lighting in the early 1900’s. |
Central Business District Traffic InterconnectDriving in and around major downtown business districts can prove a challenge in most cities. Chicago is no exception. Thousands of cars and pedestrians commute through Chicago’s Downtown Business District on a daily basis. The Chicago Department of Transportation contracted with Divane Bros. Electric Co. to assist in the flow of traffic and improve safety for both vehicles and pedestrians through the installation of a Traffic Interconnect System. Intersections in downtown are fiber optically linked to help control the flow of traffic in and out of the city during peak travel periods. Miles of fiber transmit light signals to modernized controllers located at each intersection to coordinate operation of the newly installed traffic signals. This installation is yet another example of Divane Bros. and the City of Chicago working in concert to provide upgraded conveniences for people living, working or visiting Chicago. |
