State Street Subway RehabilitationThe City of Chicago has relied on Divane Bros. for many years, and contracted with Divane when it needed to renovate one of its busiest and most visible subway stations. Originally constructed in the early 1940’s, the State Street subway was a marvel of its time. Along with its pioneering use of fluorescent lighting, this subway also received widespread recognition for its advanced ventilation, drainage and signal systems. More than a half a century later, these once revolutionary features had begun to show their age. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) decided to renovate the State Street subway’s Jackson platform and transfer tunnel, which is now part of the Red Line. The CTA contracted with Divane Bros. to renovate the lighting, electrical, and public address systems. The new platform is safer and more user-friendly, with excellent lighting, clearer, easier-to-read graphics, and a new public address system that is cleverly integrated within the light tray. These improvements have provided millions of travelers with state-of-the-art amenities, and have returned the subway to a 21st century version of its original glory. This project is the latest in a series of transit station rehabilitations that are a part of the City of Chicago’s commitment to improving public transportation in Chicago, and Divane Bros. has been a key element in their success. |
