Educational Facilities

As demographics change and the nation has placed increased emphasis on improving our educational system, the specialized needs of this type of facility have meshed well with Divane Bros. Electric Co.'s ability to provide the required electrical services such as Local Area Networks (LAN) and increases in power required by modern technology. Divane Bros. Electric Co. has successfully completed many of these facilities, and is proud to be a positive force in assisting the educational development of our young people.

Unity Junior High School - Cicero, IL

The City of Cicero, IL, one of the state’s oldest and largest municipalities, recently transformed the former Danly Machine site, abandoned for nearly 20 years, into the location for a new 442,000 square foot junior high school that provides educational and recreational space for the entire community. Divane Bros. Electric Co. served as the electrical sub-contractor on Cicero’s new $89 million junior high school. Unity Junior High is home to over 370 employees and 4000 students. The facility is actually two schools under one roof, divided into east and west campuses. The amenities within the school include a Library/Media Center, two cafeterias, twelve basketball courts, and over four and a half acres of athletic fields.

Harper Community College - Palatine, IL

In November 2000, Harper College received the funding to build a learning center for Harper’s nationally acclaimed programs in health, science, and computer technology. Divane Bros. Electric Co. was the electrical contractor for the Avente Center for Science, Health Careers and Emerging Technology. The Center measures 288,500 square feet and contains 27 classrooms, nine lecture halls, 38 laboratories, a mega computer lab with 271 student workstations, full-scale nursing laboratories and a dental clinic. Divane Bros. Electric Co.’s commitment and dedication assisted the opening of this new building in August 2004, just in time for the fall semester.

UIC Campus

Divane Bros. successfully completed a major medium voltage cable replacement project at the University of Illinois Circle Campus. Work consisted of complete replacement of 15kv feeders on the East campus in Chicago. Installation had to be performed around old, deteriorating cables with a complicated transfer scheme to avoid any interruptions to service. Outdated oil filled potheads had to be disassembled and replaced with modern, state of the art termination with extensive buss modifications. Divane Bros. Electric Co. established a close working relationship with University personnel. Detailed & carefully planned cut-overs had to be managed for each of the 30 plus buildings with redundant feeders. 60,000 feet of power cables were installed without any interruption to service. Medium voltage splicing was performed using modular connectivity. Extensive testing and phasing needed to be consistent and performed in a totally safe and reliable manner. Divane Bros. Electric Co. was able to deliver the campus turnover on time, with total satisfaction from the customer.

Power / LAN Installations

The information superhighway has become an instrumental part of everyone’s daily lives. This is especially true in the educational sectors of our society. The Chicago Public School System contracted Divane Bros. Electric Co. to furnish and install the necessary components for a complete operating Local Area Network in several existing schools throughout Chicago. The electrical additions increased the power demand at these locations, and electrical service upgrades were also provided to accommodate the increased power requirements.
