Next Generation Family Business Scholarship
Divane Bros. Electric Company is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for the children of current employees. Divane Bros. Electric has been a family company since its inception in 1920. Over the years, this company has succeeded in large part due to the commitment and dedication of individuals from families who have given their talents and developed their professional careers at Divane Bros. Electric. The success of any family business is dependent on maintaining the involvement and commitment from families that have helped to make the business grow. To help encourage and foster the next generation of leaders and employees at Divane Bros. Electric, the company is offering a benefit to current employees that reflects our values and commitment to maintaining a strong family business tradition that will promote our future success. The scholarship and internship is for the children of employees who are high school students, college students or who are pursuing trade or professional training. The scholarship is a financial award of up to $5,000 and includes a potential summer internship opportunity at Divane Bros. Electric Company. Students selected for the scholarship will be recognized as Divane Bros. Scholars. Scholarship awardees will have the opportunity to work inside the company applying the skills they are learning in the classroom, developing hands on business skills and abilities, honing professional networking skills, and learning about the construction business. Each student will be assigned a personal mentor within the company with whom they will meet regularly during the summer internship placement. The personal mentor will meet with Divane Bros. Scholars formally and informally to talk about their developing interest in the construction business, to provide advice and guidance as it is related to academic planning and career decisions, and to help students to reflect on and integrate their experiences at Divane Bros. Electric Company with their coursework and academic learning.
Eligibility
The Divane Bros. Electric Company Next Generation Family Business Scholarship is available to the children, step-children, or adopted children of all current employees who are enrolled in a high school, community college, college/university, or trade school or will be in the upcoming semester.
Construction companies require a wide variety of talents and training to help make it successful. We understand that it may be difficult to realize, at the onset, exactly what a student is striving to achieve from their education. Therefore, we would like to open our scholarship offer to all of our employees, regardless of chosen area of concentration to be considered for award.
Continuing education is a developmental process which challenges students to learn and achieve goals that will stay with them throughout their lives, regardless of the eventual career choice.
Divane Bros. is offering to be a part of that developmental process.
Listed below are only some areas of concentration that relate directly to the construction business.
Areas of Concentration
The following are a few examples of areas of study and concentration for the internship:
- construction management
- job estimation and project management
- business management/business leadership
- electrical engineering
- electrical communication
- financial accounting/construction accounting
- CAD/construction drawing
- Safety
- Quality Assurance / Quality Control
Enrollment Requirements
Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and maintain full-time student status.
Length of Award
This is a one year, renewable, tuition scholarship. The financial award may range up to $5,000 per student. Scholarship awards may include a paid professional summer internship placement with Divane Bros. Electric Company.
Application Procedures
Students of employees interested in applying for the Divane Bros. Electric Next Generation Family Business Scholarship should submit the following:
- Divane Bros. Electric scholarship application
- A 500-700 word essay describing the student’s interests, experience and career goals
- An official academic transcript
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to the scholarship applicant’s character and personal qualities, one of which should be from a professor, teacher or guidance counselor
Selection Process
Students will be evaluated based on their leadership potential, academic achievement and personal character. Scholarship finalists may be interviewed by the Divane Bros. Scholarship Selection Committee.
